Model 70 butts
When did Winchester start putting rubber butt pads on model 70's. I have been told "all magnums had factory pads", also told "all pre-war guns had steel pads". Were rubber pads offered as an option?

The Pre-64 model 70 magnums (.338, .375 & .458) had factory pads. Others were standard with steel buttplate until about 1961 when they switched to a hard rubber composite. Factory pads were available as an option. Pre-64 featherweights had an aluminum buttplate. Can't speak about the model 70's after that. 0 -
drl50 got most of your answer covered, all the 264 fwt's I've seen had a vented Winchester pad also, I do beleive people were a hell of a lot tougher back in the pre-war and pre-64 days, they didn't need these Limbsaver pads on all their guns like us whimps use today. [:D] 0
