  Gunsmith at Smoke N Gun in Wuakeghan IL is pretty good. More of a restoration smith though.
  
  Depending on what you want worked on you might try Krebs Custom Guns in Wauconda IL. Not sure if Marc Krebs is still taking smith work but with this economy, who knows.
  
  If it's something that can be fixed or modded by the factory that built your gun, personally I would send the gun there 1st. Factory work adds to the value of a gun. Non-factory unless from a named smith detracts.

  Try this site. You can search by state & what area of work you need.
  Note, it will show every Gander Mountain Store of which there are several in the states you originally listed.
