7-30 waters

Does anybody make a rifle chambered for 7-30 Waters? I understand U.S. Repeating Arms made a lever action in that caliber several years ago. Do they still make it?

    i really like this cartridge; accurate in the contender.have any of y'all shot a good size deer w/ this using the 130 gr. sierra ssp. by good size , for around here , that means about 150 lbs at about 100 yards max. thanks to all . the season approches. thanks and good luck to everyone.

    I would start with unfired 30-30 brass. Using good quality case sizing lube run it into the 7mm Waters sizing die that has had the decaping pin removed. Just run it in far enough that the case will chamber in your rifle without resistance. Make up some fire forming loads with 6 to 8 grains of pistol powder toped by C o W, held in place with a TP wad. After firing square off mouth and cut to correct overall length with case trimmer.

    Wow! I guess you're right; the only place I could find it is Midway, and they want $35 a box for it. I would imagine it's not much in demand because it's not a very popular cartridge and those who have one make the cases from .30-30's.

    It should not be much of a problem. Everybody has some .30-30 brass laying around. Take one, lube it, and run it into your sizing die and see what you think of it when it comes out. Shouldn't even need any special fire-forming since the cartridge headspaces on the rim. If I were doing it, I'd start with new brass, as rufe-snow says, size them, load them and fire away. You can neck down .30/06 to .25/06 in one pass through a standard sizing die so necking down only .024" won't be a problem, especially with the thin .30-30 brass.

    Thanks for the info. Just a couple of questions.
    1. What did you (rufe-snow) mean by "toped by CoW"?
    2. Would 4 grains of red dot be ok for fire forming?
    That is what I use for my 38 special.

    I take it that I prime and load with pistol powder, compress the load with tollet paper and put a wax bullet in it. Shooting it will fire form the cartridge to my chamber.
    As you can probably tell by now, I have never made my own wildcats.

    "C o W", is Cream of Wheat.

    I believe that 6 grains of Red Dot would be better fire forming load.

    You don't need a wax bullet just a hunk of unused, ( used has tendency to small bad, and might cause the other folks at the range to leave). TP compressed in the neck to hold the C o W in place. Hold the barrel at a 45 degree angle when fire forming with this load. After firing the first round check the brass to make sure it has formed satisfactorly. If not, use more Red Dot.

    I never would have thought that C o W would have stood for Cream of Wheat.
    I will leave you with this. To indicate to you that I'm not a complete idiot to reloading - " I will not cook the C o W before I put it in my cartridge." Thanks again for all ya'lls help.

    Make sure you have enough clearance in the neck area when you size the case down, sometimes they will get a bit tight when your necking down 30/30 cases......
    I wouldn't bother with the COW to form them either, just size em down in a 7/30 Waters die and load them with the same as you'll be using to shoot with. The accuracy will surprise you........

    I was thinking about buying a Barrel in 7-30 Caliber and the research I did on Cases got me to this company called E Arther Brown Co. 100 cases for 55.00 dollars already formed and with the 7-30 head stamp and 7-30 2 Die set for 75 dollars, not too bad a price for not having to reform cases, hope this helps. Bill
