I have a Hunter model AK-47 variant that I want to" take tactical"; this rifle has a milled reciever that is slant cut, like a Valmet M-78. I'm trying to find a butt stock that will be a direct replacement and not need any rework or modification.
Has anybody reworked one of these rifles or know of a source for tactical style stocks that will fit the slant cut reciever? Is there an adapter on the market that will allow the use of standard AK stocks?

    Can you post a picture of the slant cut reciever? Are they the same slant cut as some of the Norinco AK47 rifles?

    Just remember you will have to add more US made parts to stay legal. The 1989 import ban is still in effect. Do a search here or on the web for 922r compliance.

    TAPCO is probably going to be your best bet. They have been handling these kinds of parts longer than just about anyone else. These odd-cut receivers are a real problem and there may or may not be an adaptor available so you might have to improvise.

    As Mark stated, I do believe there was an adaptor that was used, not a special made stock to match the angle of the reciever.

    Take the advice seriously about changing the needed parts too. The BATFE will take it seriously.

    I don't want to open a can of worms, but to my knowledge, no individual has ever been prosecuted for a 922r violation for non-compliant parts.

    My understanding is that if they detect a violation, the BATFE's policy is generally just to confiscate the gun.

    The reason is that its difficult to prove who assembled a gun (the crime, apparently is in manufacture, not possession) and there is some question about the legality of BATFE's interpretation of the 922 statute to begin with. So rather than proceed with difficult criminal cases that may eventually end up in the re-interpretation (or outright negation) of the 922 statutes, the BATFE just issues the proverbial slap on the wrist.

    Now, that said, my advice is still to do everything in your power to ensure 922 compliance. Particularly with an AK, where American made compliant parts are inexpensive and readily available, it doesn't make sense to take a chance.

    But if you're worried that someone is going to kick down your door and you're going to spend 30+ years in Club Fed over the wrong kind of folding stock your AK. . .probably not.

    Contact ironwooddesign.com. They make stocks for AK type rifles. I have bought from them before and they make a good product. I also bought a slant cut stock for a Norinco AK47. They should know if their stocks will work. Also will count toward the 922r compliance as mentioned in earlier threads. Good luck.
