night sight question

a friend has a Taurus pt1911 with "novack" style sights, he is looking to buy some night sights, does anyone make night sights for these pistols?

    Heinie or PT Night Sights (pretty good stuff and the colors to choose). Hell practically everyone makes "combat" style night sights for a 1911.

    taurus machines in a odd ball size dove tails on their sights, that is the problem?

    I'd try to talk a friend out of replacing the sights.

    I've never been a fan of night sights. Think about it; they are only good during a short period each day when it's dark enough to require a little help aiming, but light enough to clearly identify your target. If I'm going to use a gun for Close Encounters In The Dark, I'm going to use a gun with a mini-light hanging on a rail AND/OR a green laser.

    For just about any other social use, I like the Novak sights, & your friend is fortunate enough to already have them. Besides, make any change in the sights on a semi=auto, & the resale value takes a nose dive.

    totally true but he is hard headed!!i told hime the same thing, i also told to trade it off for a kimber or springfield

    I do generally agree here (that Novaks are great as-is, and that night sights are mostly gimmick), though to be fair, you generally don't get the luxury of knowing when you're going to be attacked.

    Having a light and/or laser mounted on your gun can make it bulkier and harder to conceal, or possibly eliminate various holster choices, and that's not for everyone.

    If I "know" I'm going to be assaulted (light, dark, or in-between), I'm bringing a shotgun or carbine (depending on the nature of the assault), not a pistol.

    Even if their added value is questionable, I don't think night sights HURT anything, so long as the sights themselves are otherwise good.

    In terms of resale value, I can't see how the value of your gun will go down if you switched out stock Novak sights for tritium Novak sights. I'd think the resale value would at least stay the same, if not go UP by a little bit, though it shouldn't go up by the full cost of the add-on sight.
