I though a pistol that would shoot a shotgun shell was illegal but I see them for sell all the time. (new guns)

Are they prohibited anywhere else? The reason why I ask is because while California gets all the press, places like New Jersey and Massachusetts can be just as bad.

(In theory, if Ruger or Smith put out a combination .45LC/.410 gun the State *might* allow it. . .I wouldn't hold my breath for that).
As to jurisdictions more "retarded" than CA, well. . .yeah, there are.
Frankly, in much, if not most of the world, private citizens aren't allowed to own handguns at all, so consider THAT.
In New Jersey, its difficult to get ANY handgun. Each gun you want to buy requires its own separate application, paperwork, fee, license, waiting period, justification AND CLEO signoff. I don't think the Taurus guns are specifically banned there, though its certainly possible to be in a jurisdiction within NJ where the CLEO won't sign off on letting you buy one.0 -
It has nothing to do with what it can or can not fire. Second what you are talking about is not illegal either.

A "pistol" size gun that has rifling in it IS a pistol by definition. Since a Judge has rifling it IS a pistol.
A "pistol" size gun without rifling (smooth bore) is NOT a pistol because it does not have rifling in it. Depending on how a smooth bore (there are others, not just "shotgun" style) "pistol" size gun was made with determine what it is. If it was built from a VIRGIN receiver it could be an AOW or an SBS (if it fires shotgun shells). If it was cut down from a shotgun it would be an SBS. The AOW and SBS are NFA items. There is a link at the top of this Forum that tells about NFA stuff if you are interested. NFA stuff IS legal.0
