marlin 80
thinking about buying this rifle but noticed it is not grooved nor tapped for scope, need this for my eyesight. how hard would it be for a person with a good drill press and above average skills to drill and tap a receiver to add scope bases. i would think a rifle of this value would not be a good choice to have this work done.

If I were you I would look around at some of base makers to see if they make a base for your rifle and I am sure you will find a base. Once you have the base it would be just a matter of setting up the rifle and base and drilling two holes in the receiver. Here is link to the Marlin Weaver mounts and your rifle is listed, make sure you look at the picturec of the sight system so you get an idea of what they are proposing. I think you rifle will need a side mount system and base that angles over the top of the bolt. I have installed a base and rings on other rifles and had to send some parts back until I got the ones I thought would fit the way I wanted them with the type scope I had. I checked the link and you will have type Marlin in the search engine it will not put the Marine parts in the scratch pad to post here.
