.303 British experts...help
My friend has a No4 MkI in .303 British that has been customized. He had some older factory ammo(Remington)and 1 of the cases separated in the chamber. We then fired some new ammo and the case itself about 1/8" or so from the rim was just slightly bulged. You cant really see it but you can feel it. Is this normal for this rifle? I know that the bolt heads are removable for correcting headspace issues. Is this most likely the problem or just normal for this make of rifle? Thanks.

bad chamber or headspace.. heads are numbered 0,1,2,3 0 -
almost all smle rifles have 'generous' chambers, the case separtaion tho sounds like a headspace problem. like forsix said try the next up bolt head (if yours is a '1', try a '2')ect. 0 -
It is a common problem thats why they have a whole serious of bolt heads, hopefully you have a size or two left in the progression ladder. Sorta like kids shoes eventually the gun out grows the bolt head and you have to get a bigger one. When they outgrow the biggest ones of the shelf it gets expensive.
Case life when reloading for those guns is very short as you can see if you don't get things corrected.0 -
I had a similar problem with milsurp ammo. the cases would actually get stuck and jam the action. I couldn't find a #2 bolt head so i tried shooting prvi ammo. no more jams. must be a lighter load (?). 0 -

Thousand plus rds of PRVI ammo and no problems. Best for hunting and target as well as price.0
