I had a Glock Model 22 for a few months. Sold it and bought the XD 40 subcompact, very happy with the XD. I have never had a jamb, misfire, or any other problems. Liked it so much I also purchased the XD 45.

I liked the XD45 so much, I now own 2. The Glock is very good also. If you have friends that own these pistols see if they will let you shoot them. Then you will know which is a better fit for you.

I believe both are great weapons! I own both, and shoot them regularly! I have an XD 40 & 45. Shoot and carry both, at different times of course! I have 3 Glocks: 21, 23 & 37! The Glocks are a true combat weapon and mine all shoot well! I wish I could say one was better, but I can't. Now, I don't want to get you in any trouble here, but maybe you could try my method! Explain to the "boss" (read wife) that you will travel to the shop, select the best "deal" and return! Of course once there, you just have to get the other for her! Hey, what can I say, it works for me, even if she does shake her head a lot![:D]

The XD's fit my hand better, but both are good pistols. The downside to a Glock in .40 for me is the reloading danger .40 possesses.

I have a sub compact XD 40, and I have never had any issues with it at all. It performs flawlessly every time I shoot it. I also reload and when I get used brass I can always tell which ones came from a Glock. They are very hard to get through the sizing die due to the swelled case from being unsupported in the chamber.

Having fired both, I'd say it boils down to personal peference. Both are reliable, accurate enough, and affordable. I prefer the XD over the Glock because the XD has more safety features that will help prevent accidental discharges without hindering its function, better ergonomics, and better sights.

Also, the XD seems to kick less than the Glock does, especially in .40 S&W.

These are all my personal opinions, so don't take it as gospel or anything. But in the end, I prefer the XD over the Glock.

I own a springfield XD40, a glock 20c, and a glock 22. I bought the XD used because I got a really awesome price on it, and was when they first came out. I've got well over 5000rds thru my glock 22, and probably 1000 thru the XD40, and my glock 20c is new, I'm still on my 500rd break in period.

All of them are good guns, duty capable, and I would carry any of the three if I had too, and feel confident with them.

If given the choice I would take the Glock. One, because I like the way it feels in my hand better. Two, because it has less parts (no grip safety) which means less to break, keep it simple. And three, because I know when it comes time to do preventative maintenance, the parts are readily available and fairly cheap. When was the last time you tried to change out the recoil assembly on a springfield XD40? This is something that should be done every 3000 to 5000 rounds on any semi-auto handgun. I just changed the one on my glock 22, cost me $7.99, and took less than 30 seconds. No one but the factory sells them for the XD40... Wonder how much its gonna be?

Glock literally set the bar, everything else is just competing with it, trying to improve it, trying to add frills and bells and whistles. You won't find a better striker fire, polymer framed duty capable gun out there, IMHO. Its called Glock perfection, not because there aren't more accurate guns, or guns with more frills, because there are plenty. But because its perfect for what it is. You really don't need anything more or anything less. Its as simple as can get, but gives you literally everything that you need for a duty capable combat handgun.

Had both for a while. Sold the XD'S as the Glocks fit my hand better, and are more accurate. Both ate everything I feed them.
Handle both and shoot them if possible. Then get the one you like.

I own both the sub and the tactical XD'S. I have feed them everything from reman's ammo, to you name it and have never had a problem. I primarily shoot the 180 gr. JHP but the reman's are LN. I have big hands and both XD'S fit perfectly. Very easily taken apart for cleaning vs the Glock. Both are fine handguns. I agree with ni hao, some of the indoor ranges have them to rent, try them out and see which one you like and why, then decide. Just my 2cents.[:)]
