What Pistol

I don't understand why my last post was locked. This is a pistol receiver measuring about4 3/4" long and 2 1/2 inches high. It is made of Brass with steel trigger, hammer, & other parts. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks, Gunswapper.

    What you have is the remains of a .41 rimfire Williamson derringer, ca 1866-70.
    They came with a steel insert that allowed use as a percussion gun if cartridges were not available.

    hrf should get the "Eagle Eye" award for the year. Your pistol is shown in Suydam's US Cartridges and Their Handguns on pages 54-55. It was unique in that it fired .41 RF, OR used loose black powder, ball, and a percussion cap on the steel "auxiliary chamber". There was a US Patent issued on this- #58,525, dated Oct 2, 1866. You might do a computer search for the patent, and get lucky there. Concept seemed to be if RF ammo could not be found, you could still "roll your own"- and the 41 RF Short had only been on the market 3 years when Mr. David Williamson created his derringer.

    Thanks for the information! I printed out pictures and info from the auction. Now if I could find parts! OR, is there anyone who does restoration on items like this? And would it be worth it? Thanks, Gunswapper.

    If you had the barrel, it might be a fun project to carve replacement wood. But, considering the barrel is missing & the metal is not in great condition, not worth fooling with & "restoration" is not possible.
