Dumond Barrel ?

I have a High Standard G380 pistol. The barrel can be removed by pressing the button in the receiver just below the barrel. The barrel has a ramp front sight, on the sight ramp is stamped the words Dumond Co.The barrel has the words,Dumond Co stamped near the breech,left side. On either side of the sight ramp there are three holes,a built in muzzle break. The barrel rifling does not extend into the area where the holes are, this muzzle break area is unrifled an appears to be of a slightly large diameter.I purchased this pistol in the early 60's from another target shooter. I can't find him now and am wondering if any one can tell be about the Dumond Co. They do not come up on goole.Thanks

    I owned a G 380 years ago, that one and all the others I ever saw had plain barrels, i.e no ramp or integral muzzle brake.

    Also the .380 was never used as a center fire target cartridge as far as I know. Sounds like some guy had a custom barrel made for his G 380.

    If you can establish though that it was done at the High Standard factory, it would become quite a collectors item.

    You might consider contacting John Stimpson at his High Standard collectors web-site. Provide him with quality photos of the pistol and barrel. If anybody could explain it, he would be the one.

    I recently learned that Dumond made custom barrels and when the owner,presumably a gentleman named Dumond died the business was sold off. No other info is forcoming.

    Dumond was in business in the 1930s and 1940s.
    The only other reference to his barrels that I have seen was in 'Pistols, a Modern Encyclopedia' by Henry Stebbins. His co-author Bert Shay describes ordering a Dumond barrel and sights for a 1903 Colt .32 ACP in 1945. Mr Dumond was deceased by the time that book came out in 1961, so information on the Gorenet will be lacking.

    I think you have one of those things that is fascinatinating, a window into the custom guns of a bygone day, but so obscure as to not be real valuable.
