The letters on the barrel are a date code. Go to the Remington website and you can use them to date your rifle to month/year.

February 1966. Question have you had any feeding problems with your 552...after about 2000 rounds mine started having feeding problems and they just got worse, just wondering if you have experienced any?

I inherited one. Feeds and shoots fine. But barrel was loose in receiver and you could feel it. Bought a new reciever, didn't help. Have taken it to gunsmith. No one knows why. Sid they could shim it. But that would mean no more disassembly cleaning. ????

I actually just bought the rifle and have not shot it yet.

The guy I got it from is a good friend and he said he hasn't had any feeding problems and the barrel is solid, no slop or movement but I noticed the forend had some play so I don't know if I should be worried about that...

Rifle looks pretty clean, mind you I haven't shot it so the feed issue remains to be seen... But I figured for $50 and some electrical work on his guitar I couldn't pass it up!

Thank you for the dates and barrel codes!
