Christmas Help!!!
I am looking to possibly buy a shotgun this Christmas for my boyfriend. He wants an 12 gauge over and under shotgun for clay pigions with the auto ejectors. He's not going to be using it daily, so it should be reasonable, however I don't want something cheap either.
I will admit that I know nothing when it comes to shotguns. I'm a deer hunter and that's about it.
I would appriciate if I could get some suggestions to the make/model of guns I should be looking for.
Thanks in advance

First off, let me welcome you to the Forums here on Gunbroker. Next, all of us guys here that don't have, wish we did have a girlfriend like you! May God richly bless you!
On to business....
You did not mention a budget with which you are working from. That is a vital piece of information. I have myself a Winchester Select Energy Trap gun, and love it. They also make/made? it in a Sporting clays version. You might be able to pick up a good used one under $1000.00 on the auction side. There also the Ruger Red Label's, and the Browning Citori's. For lots of clay shooting, get one with back bored barrels, and ported, and of course the interchangable choke tube model.
The Stoeger, and the Mossberg Silver Reserve are decent for more of a budget, but are kind of clunky. Really, if we knew a budget constraint, we could be of more help, and provide some links for you perhaps.

I have a Browning Citori 525 Sporting and love it. They make a few different models with different finishes depending on your budget.0 -
Akelly1,

That's about the least expensive you will find for that order. I have a CZ in 20 ga and like it a lot. I also have a Browning Citori and like it even more. It's just been a great fitting shotgun for me. CZ's are built for CZ by Huglu in Turkey. Don't let that fool you they are decent shotguns. Very tightly built. The top model, the Woodcock and the next model the redhead have ejectors on 12's and 20's The canvasback and mallard models have extractors. So it depends on how much you want to spend. The link I gave is a really good deal.
If you're going to spend up to a grand or so on a shotgun I would recommend seeing how they fit. I love o/u's but some don't. Beretta 686's don't fit me well at all. Franchi's and Verona's do. The basic models of all those shotguns run around a grand. But most have the requirements you are looking for. So if you need it to fit better have it fitted BEFORE he shoots it and you might be able to exchange it. Or maybe lay it away and take him down there when the store opens after Christmas and do it there.0 -
mossberg silver reserve is a cheaper but nice looking gun.It also shoots very well, clays or hunting. It also comes with ( if i remember right ) 4 or 5 different chokes if purchased new.Cant remember what it cost but i think it was a little over 500. but you can get them used for less. Remington also makes a good cheaper gun that works very well. 0 -
One thing to consider is just like him going shopping for clothes or shoes for you the intent is good but you might have different taste then his . At least with this kind of gift from him to you . You most likely would be able to exchange it . In my state if a firearm is bought then paperwork has to be filled out and buyer approved in this case you the wife when the gun is actually for your husband[:(]the sale is completed and when it leaves the shop it can not be returned as new because the shop can only sell to another person as USED[:(!] . I know the thrill of opening a package is gone but . I would want my wife to take pictures of 3 or 4 different model guns that the gun store had in stock put these pictures in a box and tell him that you will go to store with him and he gets to choose what one he likes best [^] 0 -
Buy a Gift Card and but some pics in the box. If I had a girl like you it would not matter I would find the gun I like and love it the same. But the ruger is a great choice. 0
