Winchester 71??

Hi guys, I am looking for some expert advice. I am looking at a Winchester 71 to purchase. The problem is that the bolt peep is missing. I understand these are very rare parts to find. The guy is asking $1500obo and it's probably a 95% standard model all original. Do I walk away or make an offer and try to find a bolt peep? How hard are they to find and what would I have to pay if I could find one?

  Did the early Winchester 71 made in 1936 to the mid 40's come with an owners manual? If they did were could I find a copy of it?

  Being that it is a standard Sporting Rifle (versus a Deluxe), I would walk very quickly away from it at that price. Finding the correct bolt-peep (there were two different types used) will be a very big challenge.
