357 rem max

any suggestions on where to get ammo for it or what i can shoot in the gun. i just bought and cant shoot it .

    Watch the auctions here or reload for it. In the meantime you can shoot 357 magnum or 38 special in it.

    WHOOAH! STOP! REWIND!

    First, welcome to the GB forums.

    The 375 Max is a pistol cartridge with a .357 bore & 1.605 case length. The 308 is a bottle necked rifle cartridge with a .308 bore & 2.015 case length. There is no similarity what-so-ever. "You can also shoot 38" is probably what was said & you mis-heard or mis-understood.

    Do a google search for '357 remington maximum', you'll ger 193,000 hits. Surely that's enough to answer any & all questions.

    You neglected to say what gun (make, model, or4iginal or customized) you have. Also intended use can vary the ammo requirements.

    www.midwayusa.com has brass avalible now at about $25 per 100. Inquire at gunshops in your area & I'll bet someone can put you in contact with a custom loader.

    What gun did you get for the max. I have origional Federal Red and White Box, 50 rounds in the origional load which was 180 grain JHP.

    According to my sources, A handgun chambered for the 357 Maximum will Shoot:
    .357 Maximum
    .357 Magnum
    38 Special
    38 Colt Long
    38 Colt Short

    I agree with the others don't try a 308 in the pistol.

    The 357 Maximum is a .3 inch elongation of the 357 Magnum case. Firing a 357 Magnum in a 357 Maximum is no different than firing a 38 Special in a 357 Magnum or a 45 Colt in a 454 Casull.

    Bigbear - depending on what type of 357 Maximum you have will depend on if you want to use 357 Maximum ammunition. If you have a Ruger Blackhawk, good advice would be not to shoot any 357 Maximum in the pistol. The 357 Maximum in the Blackhawk was responsible for gas cutting the top strap in front the cylinder in as few as 1000 rounds. So did most of the other revolvers which chambered the 357 Maximum. I believe the Dan Wesson revolver eventually avoided gas cutting by the adjusting the barrel-cylinder gap with their screw-in barrels.

    If you have a Thompson Contender, gas cutting isn't an issue.

    As far as 357 Maximum cartridges, they are relatively obsolete. Dan Wesson used to manufacture them, but don't know if they still do. In fact, they are not very popular, so don't know who if anybody makes them anymore. In either case be prepared to pay $$$$ or start buying reloading components.
