Browning shotgun
I have a Browning Auto-5 semiautomatic 20 gauge shotgun. It is about 20 years old. It is still in the box, never shot and never even put together. I even have the original reciept, about $600 new.

This is probably a dumb question but i had someone tell me that his price guide showed a value of $700 for my brownig shotgun
( item # 16220343) The gun was brand new in the box so i started the auction at what i thought was a wildly optimistic price. since then its gone to a point were i'm woried i've mis represented it in some way. Was the price guide just not that accurate or have i done something dumb?0 -

There are no pictures. This is a gun as described by a friend. He wants one. He doesn't know the model but knows the brief description I gave. He said it was out of production and would probably run about $1500.00. I need a model # and dates of manufacture.

Browning made more than 1 model of automatic 20gauge. You need to find out the model number and the serial number. My guess that if its $1500 its a belgian made auto-5 and for that price it should be mint with the box. But you we are just throwing darts without more information.0 -

You ask much and give so little...
Age isn't really important, so let's forget it for now. Assuming an A-5 the first question is where the safety is located. If in front of the trigger, then the gun was made sometime before the late 30's. If behind the trigger then the gun is post WW2 for all practical purposes and is either Belgian or Japanese.
Assuming a later gun the Belgian will always bring about a 20% premium over a Japanese gun in similar condition. The "suicide safety" models will bring somewhat less than their more modern Belgian siblings, but this seems less and less of an issue as time marches on.
So we have a A-5 in 20 ga. You state a vent rib. Is it? I ask because this model also came with a raised rib and there is a price difference. Do the numbers match on both the barrel and receiver? Are there any alterations such a a recoil pad or poly-choke? Is the forestock undamaged? And is the gun a standard A-5 or a LT A-5?
Now for the dart and dartboard...
Our economy is in the tank right now. Those that have money aren't keen to spend and those that don't can't spend. This complicates my answer as true value is determined only at the moment of sale.
My older son owns a Belgian Sweet 16 with a vented rib in pristine condition. $1500 might buy the gun if he needed the money, but he doesn't. A standard Belgian 20 ga. A-5 in similar condition can probably be had for less than $1000 and a Light 20 for just over that figure by about 10%.If we happen to be speaking of a Japanese gun, then deduct at least 20% from a similar Belgian.
If the gun is NIB (Belgian or Japanese), then it becomes a sellers market. The price will no longer reflect the figures I've quoted.
One more point... Prices are somewhat regional. Popularity of different models differs depending on local culture and game laws.
