Recently my brother acquired a winchester model 1897 12-gauge pump shot-gun, serial number 598189

I have a model 1897 serial # D342xxx. All I can find online deals with WWI and II. My grandmother told me that her brother brought this weapon back with him from his tour in Korea. Someone on here has to have better resources than I do. I just wondered if it could be military issue. The only proof marks are the WP on the barrel and receiver and a double diamond shape on the front of the ejection port side of the receiver. I'm trying to sell this for my grandmother and would like to get a rough value of it.

What you are describing is not original to a Winchester 97. I would think you might find what you are looking for at a sporting goods store. 0 -
My apologies. My intentions were to not suggest it was factory on the shotgun. However I can tell you the piece had some age because its been on it since my father has owned it. Possibly 20+ years. The local sporting goods store's either say goodluck or look at me like I am an idiot. Like I said I have looked all over the internet, and haven't even found a photo of this piece... which tells me I am going to have a hard time finding it. After reading some of the posts on this site from a few of the Winchester "experts" I figured my best shot finding it would be on here. 0 -

Yeah, and I may have to end up just getting one of those style, but you are right, that looks to be the newer version.
