Savage Mod 24 20ga/22lr questions

I have a Savage Model 24 24" bbl, .22/20 ga with the serial number C361xxx. Can anyone tell me when it is from, and whether it has anything that even passes for a safety? Thanks, Bill

  I am not sure as to the date of manufacture. The bluebook does not have that information for the Model 24's based on serial number. I can tell you that like the older lever guns, that had hammers, the safety is among the best. It is located between the ears of the person holding the firearm.

  Thanks to both repliers! Tracked it down through differences in checkering to circa 1978. Unfortunately, there has not been much between my ears for some time now....[:p]

  There are so many variations of the Savage 24. Which selector does it have? Which release? That would help in identifying the time period it came from. Check out www.savage24.com as there is some good info there. These have been going up recently, and i've sold some of mine lately. They are great guns to run the woods with! Something else to check out is see how yours does with Brenneke type slugs.
