7mm remington saum

When did remington stop chambering these in specically the model 7, but to broaden my knowledge in all rifles. Thanks Kevin

    Don't really know for sure...but I HAVE noticed some recent articles "singing the praise" of this round. Some people say the round was "UNDERESTIMATED" and actually was a brilliant design. I have read that some people do some neat things at very long ranges with it. Also read it performs as well as the Winchester short 7mm with LESS powder. I am thinking of hunting one down! Also see the 284 Win is making a comeback with some new powder!

    Me too i did some studying on it i just got 1 in a model 7 stainless just wondering if anyone had experierince with it? sounds as if a lot of long range shooters love it.promblem mybe the brass in yrs to come but have been told we can neck down 300 saum to 7mm no problems. time will tell. seems strange remgington dropped them maybe wssm and wsm got the market? Kevin

    The WSM's got the market, and the WSSM's are a dying breed. I have an Ultimate Shadow stainless in 25 WSSM, and LOVE it.

    The RSAUM's are really a more efficient case design than the WSM's, and either one of them really thrive on some of today's newest powders that were not available to the public, when the cartridges were introduced.

    For what it is worth, it is my opinion, that while the RSAUMS, and WSM's are more efficient than the 7MM Rem Mag, and 300 Win Mag of which they are competing against, the reloader can still do more with the standard cartridges. For instance...a 300 Win Mag with a 150 grain bullet at 3400 FPS, or a 130 grainer, near 3700 FPS out of a 26 inch barrel. I don't believe that can happen with the shortened versions...but I have been wrong before.

    Stick with that Model 7 in 7MM RSAUM..you will like it for sure!

    Michibay: Also see the 284 Win is making a comeback with some new powder! Can you tell me where and what you have heard? (I've got one of those, too.)

    Look up Alliant Reloder 17. It's a new powder made in Switzerland...it talks about getting better velocity out of a 284 Win using RL17. The 284 is a sweet gun!

    The 284, and 7MM RSAUM are being used a lot in benchrest. The favored 6.5x284 is starting to fall off, as it is harder on the throats. The long VLD, and ULD bullets in 7MM do just as well if not better, but do not prematurely wear out the throats as bad.

    It's an efficient case with about as much capacity as the .280 Rem. Shorter so fits in a shorter stiffer action. (but long actions can be made stiff too). Of course all that ballistic ability of the upper end 7mm bullets.[;)] 140 Bergers too of course.[:D]

    For whatever reason, the 7RSAUM seems to hold the benchresters attention. While for tactical comps most seem to migrate towards the 7WSM. Both have the real potential to be super accurate. Neither seem to be going back to the 7mm Rem Mag. But it does still appear. The 'belt' is what I hear. But the .300 WM is holding it's own. Go figure. The 7mm Rem Mag can be made to be just as accurate as any round out there. Just like the .300.

    Thanks, sandwarrior; My .284 is an older, issue (pre-II) A-bolt and I don't believe I'll challenge Ballard and his purple rifle anytime soon. Interesting story. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Remington seven in 7 saum that I just bought will shoot.

    I recall some years ago, an article stating the .284 could never be an accurate cartridge because Winchester was the only one making brass for it. Maybe they had something; I notice Ballard is not using Winchester brass!

    thanks guys i'm sure i will love the model 7.as far as wssm i have a a bolt migrohunter in 243 wssm very excellent rifle and caliber very acurrate in my opion. any pets loads for the saum? thanks kevin

    I recently sold all my short magnums including an excellent Model Seven in 7mm Rem. SAUM. I am staying with the classic belted magnums from now on. Soon I will be selling all my brass and dies for the 7SAUM here on Gunbroker Auctions. Even though it is an excellent round and gun, I didn't need both traditional and short magnums and chose the older 7mm Remington, .338 Winchester, 264 Winchester, 6.5 Remington, 300 Winchester, 358 Norma, 375 H&H, and 458 Winchester Magnums to keep. I really liked the .270 and 300 Winchester Short Magnums and hated to see them go. I think the 300 Winchester Short Magnum will make it but look to see the others die before too long.
