Browning A bolt composite

Your views & experiences please. I had the older A bolt in 243 some years back, & im chasing a newer 270. Yes or No?

    I had the A-bolt Medallion in .223. It was light, fast, accurate, with a good trigger. I have always liked tang safeties, and I like the one on the A-bolt. I also liked the way the box magazine swings down and can be detached. You can quickly reload with it swung down, or carry an extra one in your pocket to snap in quickly. The 60 degree bolt lift is faster than the Rugers, Remingtons, Winchesters, etc. The 60 degree bolt lift also makes scope mounting less of an issue, because the bolt will not interfere with the scope because it never gets close to the scope.

    I put around 6000 rounds through this rifle in only about two years, and it never malfunctioned in any way.

    One drawback, however, is that the A-bolts do not lend themselves very well to rebarreling. For most shooters, this is not an issue. And in a .270, I presume that you are not going to shoot the barrel out.

    I have an A-bolt II Medallion in .270 and I can recommend it highly. It's accurate and, and with my favorite .270 load, fast at 3100 fps +.

    I realize you are talking about newer A-Bolt II's, but I bought an A-Bolt composite stalker in 30-06 new in '99 and really love this rifle. It has never failed me when it counted. I have taken 2 bull elk, 6 muleys and countless whitetails with it. It was in a Koplin gun boot when my 4-wheeler tumbled over about 4 times down the mountain in Colorado. Rifle was fine and still zeroed. It has shot every bullet I have ever tried including reloads except for this year with Winchester Supreme Elite in 180 grain. They were all over the place, about and 8" group at 100 yards. I also love the tang safety. The only thing I didn't like about it was that I thought it was a little light with heavier loads and kicked like a mule, but have gotten used to it. I would buy another in a second. Here are my two best trophies with it. A 43 1/2 wide 6x6 bull and a 28" wide muley
