Parker Hale Safari Grade

I have a Parker Hale Safari Grade Bolt Action 30-06 Birmingham England. It is appox 30-40 years old in very good condition. Scale of 1 to 10 I would consider to be 8 to 9. I was wondering what the value would be.

    Condition and value go hand-in-hand so it would be most helpful if you would post quality photographs of your rifle. Be sure to use overall lighting instead of flash and concentrate on the action and the wood with details.

    Parker Hale discontinued production in the mid 1990's. The one usually referred to as the Safari grade is typically a Model 1200 with rosewood fore end and pistol grip; double line checkering and an inset white diamond in the bottom of the pistol grip. Some of the earlier ones did not have the rosewood fore end but instead had a flattened, almost bench rest typed, forestock. If I recall correctly, a rams head was cast into the magazine and there may have been other embellishments. Gold trigger I think.

    Anyway, the stock will be of lighter colored wood, as distinguished from the last ditch production with dark walnut stocks, Santa Barbara ?? actions.

    They are great shooters, classic English express rifles that normally don't bring as much as they should. I have one in 30/06 that I was able to buy for $300 two years ago, another one in .308 Magnum that was $350 a year ago.

    There are several on auction right now, not necessarily the "safari" version though, and you might click on completed auctions (rather than inflated asking prices) to see if there is something comparable to your rifle.

    For us to give a more precise figure plese follow nononsense's advise above regarding posting photos and let us see the rifle. There may be something about your particular gun that would greatly enhance or detract from the run of the mill values we see on the auctions.

    To my mind, these rifles are "sleepers" and will continue to grow in value as people discover the difference in quality between these guns and what's being offered new.
