Need some info/pricing on an M1

Hello all,

My name is Michael and my uncle bought a bunch of beautiful guns years ago and my father and I are looking to label them as well as get an idea on how much they are worth. I will update this thread within the week with different guns we have. I will label the photos as gun #1, gun #2... etc.

Any help would be wonderful!

    I would suggest posting each gun separately with its pictures, and then ask specific questions. Topic Posts get locked at the (10) reply mark, so if you want to add information or questions, please edit your original post (or start a new topic thread).

    Definitely been refinished. Any import markings on the barrel? It has some good parts showing like the single slot gas cylinder lock screw and the lock bar rear sight, but without knowing about the rest of the parts, it is tough to place a value on it. By the way, the "ammo holder" in the butt is actually for cleaning gear.

    Ok..we've seen the gun. Nice gun. Now..

    Please note, and write down the following numbers and letters, (if there are letters), and post them here.

    1. SerNo (behind the rear sight)
    2. Drawing number (right front of receiver-below woodline)
    3. Stamping on operating rod (approx eight inches in front of the handle)
    4. Stamping on barrel (visible when the operating rod is locked back)
    5. Stamping on left side of trigger housing (also, the numbers on the hammer face, or any other part of the trigger group)
    6. Stamping on the top of the bolt
    7. Any other stamping, however inconsequential or small in appearance, that I may have overlooked.
    8. Barrel condition (stick a military 30-06 round in the muzzle, and let us know, as close as possible, how much bullet is remaining visible-photo best here).

    Value is dynamic. Volatile at times. However with above information in our hands, we'll be able to nail down just what you have, only then will we be able to start the valuation process.

    BTW, that's not a ammo holder in the butt, that's where you store the cleaning kit.
    Note also that it's a "M1 Garand", so as not to confuse it with the "M1 Carbine"

    There was never a rifle the army called the M1 Garand. It's nomenclature was US Rifle, Cal. .30 M1. Normally shortened to M1 Rifle. The term Garand has come into such common usage that the collectors association has adopted name Garand Collector's Assoc.

    More trivia. There is an M2 Rifle (.22 cal.), and M2 Carbine (full auto version of the M1 Carbine) and M2 Machine Gun (.50 cal that the current GI nickname is "Ma Deuce").

    just a guess, but it looks like it was a CMP field grade with a new stock, likely from CMP as well. the forward/top stocks are original.
    you can get new forward pieces and match it up. It'll look much nicer. jmho

    The finish on the rifle seems to be too nice for a rack grade and you cannot look at a picture to determin the ME and TE. That is a real nice looking rifle, the stock does look like it has been refinished. If you post the part numbers on the various parts the guys here can give you a accurate price. For example the single slot gas lock may be worth double the value of the later lock, the lock bar sights could also be double the value of a later sight etc, etc. You would be way ahead posting the part numbers.

    Judging from the color of the parkerization, it looks like some sort of an import of some sort to me. Take a look up near the muzzel and tell us if anything is stamped there.
