.243 to .25-06 Rebore?
Was considering having a .243 single shot rifle with a 24" heavy barrel re-bored to .25-06; would this considered a 'good idea' and work well with the ejector and such?
Also,
Is the .25-06 a fairly prevalent round for availability?
And what is the heaviest grain weight, as all that I could find was 120gr?

The ejector should work fine as the case heads are the same diameter. I don't know if it will be a cost effective operation though. It might be cheaper to buy a new barrel and just have it rebarreled. I would check around if it was me.
The 25-06 is a very popular round and is easy to find ammo most anywhere. 120 grain bullets are about the heaviest I'm aware of, but I haven't really looked to hard either.0 -
Go with the .270 if you want a heavier bullet selection. Excellant round for anything from groundhogs to elk with the right bullet selction. 0 -

Can I do that, would the case ejector handle a .270 case being made for the .243 and what about the chamber pressure and barrel?

.25-06 has the same head diameter and near enough the same chamber pressure as .243. .270 is a bit hotter but not enough to matter, the same guns have long been chambered for all three calibers. No problem converting a single shot.
Any .25 bullet over about 120 grains or a .270 over 150 grains is a lot. What is your application? If you need a heavier bullet than is usual in the caliber, better to go up a notch to .30 than push the limit.0 -

Just needed to know what the heaviest .270 gr bullet is so as to know where my limit is with a particular bullet weight as it gives me an idea of what applications that the round can be used for, which I believe it to be 180gr for the .270...

Your questions suggest that you don't reload and you would need to use factory available ammunition. This excludes using some of the heavier bullets for many of the standard cartridges. The 180 grain .277" bullets that you were discussing are not available from the factory but are used by those of us who reload.
Reboring an existing barrel, given that the quality of the barrel warrants the expense in the first place, is very cost effective.
Chamber selection though is as important as what caliber to use for the rebore. Since this is a single shot of an unspecified design should we assume[xx(] that this is a break action? If it is, then you can't set the barrel back when cutting a new chamber and you get (pardon the pun...[:I]) one shot at getting the chamber right.
In your situation, trying to use an '06 style case won't completely clean up the original .243 Win. chamber. In essence, you'll have a little step where the shoulder of the original chamber was located. The alternative here is to use an 'Improved' version of the '06 case design which would solve the size problem. Nosler sells .280 Ackley ammunition using the 160 gr. Nosler Partition...
An alternative would be to use the .260 Rem. or the 7mm-08 Rem. which would work fine and are exceptional cartridges with a good selection of factory loads. A step up with a power range equivalent to the '06 case would the .284 Win. which is seeing a revival in the competition circuit.

I was going to mention the diametrical difference but the late hour fogged my brain...
Usually, we look for a 0.015" difference between the original groove diameter and the new one. In this situation it would be up the rebore expert to decide if his tooling was up to the task.
As far as the O.D. is concerned, the mention of "...with a 24" heavy barrel..." seems to be sufficient enough for an initial discussion. But as long as you've brought it up:
When reboring a barrel it is necessary to be sure that there will be a minimum of 0.150" PER SIDE at the muzzle over the groove diameter. So using the .25 caliber as an example, the original barrel needs to be 0.557" in diameter at the muzzle to qualify for this project. It can be done with less but that is always at the discretion of the person doing the work.

+1 Nononsense, (as usual) regarding the improved case, though if reloading is not an option that would be out and brings us back to the concern of having a bump in the chamber. I'm assuming that since no one has commented to the contrary, there's enough metal in the .243 bore to allow reboring up just .014", yes? I know the math says yes, but I no nothing about the actual rebore process and so was wondering?

Yes you are correct in that I am not reloading and will be using commercially available ammunition and that this applies to a single shot break open rifle.
Concerning there being a "step" in the chamber from reboring from a .243, would reboring from a .223 instead eliminate the "step" or would it make no difference, as the rifle is only available in a few calibers in the 24" heavy barrel?
Also, I want to keep this rifle below the .30 caliber range.0 -

Yes, you can start with a .223 Rem. chamber and have it rebored to most calibers so long as the diameter rule isn't a problem.
The range of cartridges under .30 caliber is long and contains many distinguished cartridges which are superb even when limited to using factory ammunition. Let us know what you're think unless you still want a 25-06 in which case you might be all set.
