Ithaca Arms Army Issue M1911

My grandfather was a bomber pilot in the 90th Bomb Group, "Jolly Rogers" during WWII. I have recently come across his Army issue Ithaca Arms M1911. It is in good condition and is completely original. I even have the Quartermaster's paperwork showing his service number and the gun's serial number (along with some other items) indicating that it was issued to him. I was just curious about the history of Ithaca Arms, the quality of their guns, and what my grandfathers M1911 might be worth.

**NOTE** The gun is not for sale. The sentimental value far out weighs any monetary value. I just wanted to know more about what I had.

    Ithaca produced nearly 400,000 .45 Governments, so they are not really rare, but if it is (as you say) completely original, it will have substantial collector interest. There are a few sub variations of these pistols; including early example which used Colt frames and some with a different finish, so until we know the serial number and the markings it is hard to give you a price estimate. Most of these pistols have been rebuilt and reissued more than once (often several times) so original examples are hard to come by.
