    N8Will,

The Model Seven is a tad shorter than the Model 700. It is similar to the Model 600/660 of earlier years.

    Best.

I thought the Model 7 rifle action was the same as the old XP100 pistol action.

It is. The XP100 used the M600 action.

So will a model 7 action fit in any short action stock or will I need to get one just for the model 7?

The Model Seven action and barrel are differently contoured than other Remington actions, included short action versions. Stocks are not interchangeable

Thanks for the info. that kinda kills my idea of rebuilding my model 7 that is in 6mm rem to a 250 AI. I know that I can get a HS stock but I wanting to get a different bolt that is flutted. Its seems that it would be more cost effective to go with the more common 700. I think I will be father ahead to sell it and find a short action 700. Thanks again Nate

I know that I sound like a woman that can't make a decision. But I am wanting to build a small bore that is the same as my 280 AI. so that it will feel the same every time I pull the trigger.

    N8Will,

The big thing you will have to do is match the stock to your .280AI stock then. Length of action really isn't going to mean much unless you somehow have a timed event and cycling of the actions (lop of bolt) is an important factor.

FWIW, the .250 AI in a model 7 would be primo! Just match trigger pull, stock set-up and scope height/eye relief. You'll have a blast with that caliber in that rifle...no pun intended...well maybe[:D]
