Auction starting price and shipping $$
Awhile back I bought a Springfield compact XD in 45 ACP. I have all the XD gear along with both the hi cap and regular mag and all paper work and case. It has about 20 rounds through it. I also have around 340 rounds of commercially reloaded ammo in an ammo can that I thought about throwing in with it. Thinking of starting at $500 for all but am unsure about shipping costs. Thoughts on both prices? Thanks.

My thoughts were that as a private citizen was that I had to ship to an FFL holder and not from one. Is this correct? I did not realize that USPS allowed pistols to be shipped through them.

He means using your FFL dealer. A dealer can ship through USPS. I just sold my XD-45 with kit for $375 with less than 100 rounds through it.0 -

Never together. Ammunition must be shipped ground. Usually UPS is the cheapest. Ammunition shipments such as yours require that you use an "ORM-D" label on the box. Google "ORM-D" and you'll find one you can print at home.0 -
The only FFL's in my area who will ship charge $50 + postage.
A nonlicensee (that is, YOU) may only ship a handgun UPS or Fedex Next Day Air, & only from a company customer service counter. You can calculate the exact charge using either shippers online rate calculator only after you have the recipients zip code, know if the address is commercial or residential, & measure & weigh the package.
Figure $50-70. And, be sure your description states "Be sure that your FFL will accept delivery from a nonlicensee; I will enclose a photocopy of my drivers license."
I'd sell the ammo locally, or give it away. Shipping is too much trouble.

You need to just forget about the ammo. As soon as you put the ammo into the box it can no longer be mailed by anyone, dealer or not. This puts you with UPS or FedEx air shipping and just for the pistol you are looking at $50+. Add in the extra weight of the ammo and the surcharge for shipping ammunition by air and this fast become $100 in shipping fees. Sell the ammo locally as Neal suggested. 0 -

Anyone can ship a long gun but only a dealer can ship a handgun by USPS. I just retired as a Postmaster but when I was working, I was one of very few federal firearm licensed postal employees and handled almost all of the firearms shipping in my area. 0
