Sportsman's Guide won't ship .50 cal ammo to FL

After Sportsman's Guide pulled part of my approved order I checked their website again I saw this notice under the .50 cal ammo:

"WARNING: Ammunition cannot be shipped to AL; CA; CT; FL; HI; IL; NJ; NY; OK; RI; D.C.; MA; Canada or Puerto Rico. Ammunition cannot be shipped Parcel Post. If shipping to IA, must be 21. Please check your State, County and City laws for restrictions before ordering Ammunition."

Anybody know why? I've never had a problem before and they're shipping the rest.

    Welcome to the forum.

    The restrictions are imposed by the states (led by anti-gun Democraps :( as a local criminalization of the 50 Cal BMG rifles and ammunitions ... not SG.

    Except there is no restriction on 50bmg ammo in FL...

    SG gets pretty creative with their restrictions and there is often no rhyme or reason behind them. There are countless legal items that they won't ship to CA, yet I had no problem buying an expandable metal baton, which should have been a restricted item. We've had posts from guys who ran into the same shipping issues, said that they called SG customer service and got absolutely nowhere trying to explain that the SG restrictions were in error. Just buy your ammo from somewhere else and enjoy your Thanksgiving.

    Marty... Welcome to the forums. SG's shipping restrictions are so convoluted and confusing the people who work there dont even understand them. For example .50 cal ammo is still legal to buy here in Cal but they have the restriction. Try ordering on their web site instead of the telephone and it will probably go thru.

    They have restrictions on anything that goes on an AR type rifle, pistol grip, carry handle, scope mounts etc, from shipping to Cal yet the only thing not legal to buy is the lower receiver.

    My wife tried to buy the hunting game for the Wii game console and they would not ship that to Calif. Maybe they thought the plastic electronic gun that comes with it was a real gun.

    Here's what SG customer service's response to your question ...

    We have placed restrictions on specific items listed in our catalog and our web site.

    Due to the various state, county and municipal laws that exist, we are not always able to comply with each individual guideline.

    Not all of the restrictions are based on laws on the books, but could be a company decision based on other particular concerns. These may include whether the state has law suits pending involving gun owners and recent court decisions that may affect businesses like ours.

    Also, it may be that the states' laws are so vague that they could be interpreted unfavorably in the event a court action was ever involved.

    If its something your hot for have it shipped to someone in another state that they will ship to someone you know there as long as it legal. They have been doing this blanket ban thing for years non thing new.

    P.S. I have herd that the parent company is not American and are afraid of having legal problems.
