Marlin Lever Action Differences

I have read that the newer Marlins in 45-70 are "beefed-up". In comparing my older 336SC (1960 vintage) in .35 Rem with a newer Model 1895 in 45-70 I cannot tell any difference in their receivers other than the new cross-bolt safety. Would like to know what the differences really are? THANKS!!!

  The frame of the 1895 is bigger than the 336. It has to deal with more thrust than the 30-30 or 35 Remington put out.
