Question before rifle season.

Hey all,

I went to make sure my rifle was still on today, rifle season starts monday. My .270 is shooting great with remington corelokt's 150gr, however I was looking to switch to winchester bullets after i got through these and its about that time. My question is without having time to check if my rifle is still on with a new brand of shells is it safe to switch to a new shell as long as they are 150gr, or should i stick with whats working?

    Stay with what you have been shooting and know where the bullets hit relative to the point of aim. Other ammunition could be significantly different.

    Thanks, I know I should just stick with them and I will for this season, Ive just had some deer move pritty far after a shot from these corelokts and ive been wanting to go back to winchester for awhile now. Thanks for the advice.

    No disrespect intended, but if the critters are traveling much after being hit with a 150 grain corelokt from your .270 you may want to take a close look at where you've been hitting them.

    None taken, and all the shots have been behind front shoulder and right in the vitals, I hate blowing up the front shoulder and i wont take a shot unless i know its perfect. Dont get me wrong I have found all these deer and they arent traveling that far on me. I just seemed to have better luck with winchester.

    Sounds good to me. Sometimes they drop in their tracks, others they take a while. You should do fine with the Winchesters. I've had great success with Nosler partitians, but for most reasonably sized deer I think it's whatever works well in your rifle and gives you confidence. Have a safe and successful season![:D]

    I am with you. I have hit at least 40 deer in the lungs with the 180 gr Remington CoreLokt with a 30-06.
    Most of them went 100 yards.

    Thats my problem, im geting vitals, deer are going on an average of 100 yards. I go to skin and process my deer and seems the bullet is shattering and turning into shrapnel instead of mushrooming. Ill find peices of bullet in the shoulder i shot BEHIND not the opposite front shoulder.

    You would likely get quicker kills using 130 gr bulllets in the .270 and 150 grain in the 30/06 unless you plan to shoot them in the butt now and then. The 150 gr. 270 and 180 gr 30/06 would be a better choice for elk.

    I gotta go with Mobuck on this one. 130's are the bees knees for the .270 and deer. Mine loves the Remington 130's, 3/4 to 7/8 inch all day long at 100.
