mgm 270 WSM encore barrel
anybody know if mgm's 270 wsm barrel is safe to shoot on an encore frame.i called t/c's pro shop about a custom 7mm rum barrel & they said they do not build them in the ultra mag or short mag calipers because they had a couple of issues with the frames from these calipers.any advice????

The breach thrust (internal pressure x area of case head) is to high for the Encore design.
It's not so much that you will trash the frame, but the locking lug will be damaged before it's time (reduced life).
Personaly, I wouldn't risk it.0 -

Yes. If you want to shoot the RUMs, RSAUMs or WSMs switch to a bolt action rifle designed for the specific cartridge. These cartridges have caused some problems in the past when used in the break action T/C firearms.

If MGM (which I presume is Match Grade Machine) made the 270 WSM barrel, I'm kind of curious as to how they thought it would be used. They don't list any of the WSMs on their website. I know once in a while a barrel maker will do something for a customer with the understanding they won't reload full bore. Unfortunately the "next owner" may think all is well and they can fire away. 0 -
the reason i had asked this question was there was a mgm 270wsm barrel for sale on gunbroker (it's already sold) i went to mgm's website but could not find any short mags. e-mailed the seller and he said that he had no problems with that barrel, but i was not so sure i wanted to try it. thanks for all the imput........ 0
