Said it can't be fixed???

[:(] The first 22 LR I ever shot, a Winchester 250 lever, that was purchsed by my brother at JC Penney's in approx. 1968, has not worked for some years. I have included pictures of the trigger group that shows the smaller piece's end where you can see into an oblong hole that shows the end of a spring. This is where the piece is missing. I suspect it may be part of the firing pin?
This is the first 22 I ever shot as a youngster and would like for my son and daughter to shoot it. They have shot several other pistols,rifles and shotguns but I am inspired to try and get it working for sentimental reasons. A reputable local gunsmith said he could not get parts.

    I'm not surprised. Your rifle is among the poorest quality Winchesters ever produced; the kids have my 190, but I would be surprised if it lasts another generation.

    I'm not sure what your specific problem is, as your photos show as X's. Did you press the PREVIEW button before you posted, or is it just my computer?

    I think your best chance of getting parts is to keep checking the GB listings, as this series occasionally shows up being "parted out".

    I always thought a 'gunsmith' should be able to fabricate any small part needed. Oh well, guess that why I never tried the same one twice my expectations are too high I expect them to fix my gun.

    Exactly. A Gunsmith/machinist should be able to fix anything, but you might not be happy with the bill.

    I will try again on the pics later.
    Yeah, the smith might not have wanted to take the time or give an estimate seeing how you can get a whole gun for $150 or so and get the part from that.
    This one was a tack driver and has killed more squirrels and varmits than I could ever count. Survived through years of "Kids" use and abuse and it wasn't until we were grown an barely using it, that this problem came up.

    I agree that the Models 190 & 250 were probably the worst quailty Winchester rifles ever made. (They made a real turkey semi auto shotgun about that same time as well). But alot of gunsmiths will pronounce a gun they consider junk, to be "unfixable" simply because they don't think the gun WORTH fixing. I'd probably search the auctions here until I found a parts gun or the parts needed and simply replace the entire trigger assembly.

    Your gunsmith Can do it! What's probably happening, is he's weighing the man-hours of labor to complete job 1, and weighing the odds on greater return of the other jobs he has backlogged.

    Yes, I know G/S's can and do work by the hour..however the moment he touches [a low quality firearm] the customer almost certainly will return to the G/S if anything goes wrong, expecting the follow-up work to be completed at the gunsmith's expense!

    Sometimes better to let a job go, rather than running the risk of opening a can of worms by taking on the job. Best, Joe

    This 22, at the time, was "Big Medicine" for a 14 yr old buying it with his lawn mowing money.Dad had passed, so no one was there to recommend something better. I am guessing from what has been said about the model overall, that it was not a lot of coin. Mom reluctantly got it for him and wouldn't have known a Red Rider from a Henry!

    I hear what you guys are saying about the GS and jobs for better firearms etc...

    Will Look for a parts gun.

    I started out w/a Winchester 190. Just like you, bought w/lawn mowing money. Hey, Winchester had a good rep, and the model was fairly new then. How were we to know? I have fond memories of my 190. Until it broke after about 10 years of use. And a gunsmith likewise pronounced it not worth fixing. Got rid of it somewhere down the line.
