lake city brass

doesnt have a caliber stamp on it? i just got in 1000 cases of once fired brass and none of it has a 5.56 headstamp on it. just L.C and the nato cross. also near every piece had to be trimmed for OAL. is this normal?

    I purchased some 223 brass from one of our advertisers and as I was uniforming the primer pockets I noticed a number of the cases had the flash holes off center. Is this common with this brass or?

    Lake City military brass is not stamped with the caliber like commercial brass. Its just LC and the date, example LC 05 and the nato X in circle.

    Its normal to have to trim the brass as it stretches when its resized. I have processed thousands of these for reloading.

    Additionally, the leade on machine guns and the AR-16 variants are longer than normal to improve functional reliability and therefore, the cases will stretch. The primers will also be crimped and the crimping should be removed after depriming, unless they have previously been deprimed.

    You should also be aware that the brass will be thicker than commercial 223 brass and starting loads should be reduced an additional 10% because of the reduced case volume when starting, unless using loading information specifically for the 5.56mm Nato.

    Weigh the cases...everyone says mil cases are heavier than commercial but the last lot of LC and WCC mil brass I have weighed were within a grain or two of the commercial brass, 93-95 grains.

    yeah that seems normal for l.c. to strech in fact since it is a thicker brass ive noticed that with the l.c. brass it streches alot more than normal than with other pieces of brass with the same poweder and charge. like up to .025 when for instance pmc or remington brass will stretch like .010. another thing i noticed and didnt care for is that my lake city brass was oncefired reloaded black hills ammo. black hills reamed the primer pockets which some of the brass im finding i have to throw because the new primers dont fit nice and snug in the pocket more like they fall right in. im sure that creats some problems with accuracy with loss of gasses when fired in my rifle.
