How do the experienced sellers ship ammo ?

UPS Ground, package marked "ORM-D Small Arms Cartridges"
Fed-Ex, the same way as above
In both cases, the package must either be dropped off at a main hub, NOT a storefront shipper/location, or you can have it picked up at your home or business.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SHIP VIA THE POSTAL SERVICE
A fast search for "ammo shipping" will turn up hundreds of threads on the topic.0 -
just to note that the last batch of ammo I gotfrom the CMP was marked "orm-d cunsumer commodity"....... might be easyer to get by a up-tight ups clerk[;)].... 0 -

I know that's true for a firearm, but might not be for ammo. I just drop it off at a storefront shipper around here.

Tailgunner1954 has got the rules exactly right. You may get someone to do it wrong but according to UPS it needs to have a sticker saying ORM-D, small arms cartridges and it needs to be taken to a hub, just like when you ship a rifle, shotgun or handgun. 0 -

That was an illegally marked package. Consumer Commodity is not the correct proper shipping name. The package should have been marked Cartridges Small Arms as the proper shipping name.
Marking a package with the wrong PSN subjects the shipper to a fine of $800 to $1600.0 -

DOT requires that the package be marked with the proper shipping name exactly as stated in the hazardous materials table in 49CFR. "Small Arms Cartridges" is incorrect. The marking should read "Cartridges Small Arms".
I doubt that a DOT inspector would have a problem though, unless you were being uncooperative and they decided to nit pick. They don't get mad. They get even.0 -

Shipped out a bunch of match .45 and had no issues from following the above instructions. Make sure you check the rates it is expensive to ship ammo sometimes.0
