I have a Winchester 62a that i have had for a while. I was thinking of trading it in on something else. I have only shot it once. And just don't have a need for it.I would like to get a year on when it was made and what it might be worth. It is a 62A s,l or lr. The serial number is 247xxx. It is in ecelent condition. Any info will help...Thanks

serial number and pictures would be a BIG help in giving you information about your rifle . Your question is sort of like I have a ford mustang tell me about it [?][:0][V]

Winchester Model 62A serial number 159494 was manufactured in October of 1942. If it is in average condition, it is a $450 - $500 rifle.

The Model 62A was the final iteration of John M. Browning's superb design, which originated with the Model 1890. All told, there were nearly 2-million exposed hammer Winchester slide action .22 caliber rifles manufactured from November 26, 1890 through February 1958. If you want more information about your rifle, Ned Schwing wrote a super reference book that covers the Model 62/62A in great detail.

Actually Oct. 1942 was when the receiver was manufactured. According to Winchester factory records your gun was assembled and finished in 1946.

Thanks P. Muerrie for noting the difference between the date the SN was placed on the receiver (a part - BATFE important - of the firearm) and the date of birth of the firearm (i.e. the whole rifle).

What a great little .22. I've had mine for 30 years. It shoots great and looks just like new. I bought it years ago from a little old man and guess what. Now I'm the little old man. I don't know the number right off and I'm to lazy to go and open the safe. I think it was made in the 30s. Enjoy

my great grandfather had a 62 rifle. It was stolen from the house and thought never to be seen again. years later while digging up a rose bush... there was the rifle! re-blued and a little pitted it's still in the family. plenty of parts @ homestead
