Browning BLR problems
A customer brought in a BLR last year(older one) with the lever jambed in the fully open position, I have worked on these and am familer with timing them. I disassembled the rifle and cleaned, reassembled, and test fired it. He just brought it in again with the same problem, one 'tap' with a brass hammer on the back of the bolt got it running again. I cann't get it to do this in the shop, any suggestions, or is this a problem with the BLR??

Only problems I've ever seen with BLR's were from folks who tried to take them apart. It might be helpful to watch him cycle some dummy rounds. 0 -
Back in the mid 80's I purchased a new Model 81 BLR in 308 for my son. I had similiar problems...took it back and traded it for another gun. Frankly, I did not trust it! My feelings are...if you can't trust a gun...get rid of it! Good Luck! 0 -
I have a .308 BLR and I thought it was defective it was so hard to pull the lever down and return it that I did no like it. It did get stuck a few times as you described and I used the same process to get it working, I thought that the gearing was over running its self and causing the jamming of the lever. I got the rifle out about a year ago and stated playing with the rifle again and found the same problem with the lever being very hard to cycle. I got some lubraplate and gave the gearing a good lube with it and started cycling the lever many times and it started to work a little bit smoother. I cycled that lever so many times that it took about three days setting by my chair picking it up and functioning it and now I have a very nice smooth lever. I think that there was some roughness of the gears and the lock up on mine was due to this and this and maybe lubrication. I tried every kind of gun oil that I purchased on this rifle and none preformed like the lubraplate it may have been just getting enough use to smooth the action out it worked.
