To answer your question I'll say it depends on which class of gun you are looking at and the quality of that gun. For instance, 1800's lever actions in pristine condition didn't seem to go up that much. But, from what I've noticed, those models from around that time that weren't in good enough to shoot condition jumped about 10%.
The biggest jump was in the {edit: modern} rifles that were being produced in common American calibers. Like the Super Grade. It went from a $1200 avg. price to close to $1700. Which is around a 40% increase. A lot of the standard line model 70's went from $400-$600 up to $800-$900. But, many are actually selling in the $600-$700 range. So price tags show up to 100% increase they are actually up 50%, down to 12% depending on which model and what it was priced before.
My numbers aren't any kind of formal study. Just a number of Winchester 70's that I've looked at. Along with some older 19th century lever action models.
BertH is a Winchester guru on here. Much better on historical Winchesters than I ever hope to be. Search his name and send him an e-mail if you are looking at a specific model.

While I can't say exactly how much Winchesters have gone up I can compare it to what I call the "Elvis effect". When he died everyone went out and bought everything. When Winchester announced the closing of the New Haven Ct. plant, it was similar to that. Even though the older models hadn't been produced for years, people got hysterical and started grabbing up everything. Even the newer models became more collectable. I recall when pre 64 was the only collectable, then pre USRAC, then when they closed, things like M9422s went nuts. Don't know if this helps much. Good, authentic Winchesters will always be money in the bank. By the way, thanks for being another female in the gun collectors world. 0 -
Pauline, that's an interesting observation. Original and well said. My Winchesters are mostly Model 12s from the 50s, one model 50 in 20 gauge, one model 37 in 16 gauge and a couple of Super X 1s. What is a good general consensus on these valuewise? 0 -
I collected M12s for quite a few years. i watched 12 ga. go from a huge section in Gun List to little more than a few that either had poly chokes or were questionable. No one wanted plain bbls. Now none of that seems to make a difference, except maybe for poly chokes. 12s are hot property. The prices have gone up so I stopped buying for now. Then again, a good 15 years ago I stopped buying M42s. I said the prices would have to level off. I wish I had bought another 20. As far as SX1 my Dad who was employed at Winchester for over 40 years, retired in 1980, never could understand why the Sx never took off. He knew the way those guns were built. They have really come into their own since then. I have suddenly gotten alot more engraving requests on them in the last five years. I also know of someone that I am assisting with info that is in the process of putting together a book on them. Last but not least, the M37. Many people look at this gun as a cheap Winchester, not worthy of collecting. Guess what I've been buying up? M37, 16ga. and 410s. They have gone up. I know of several collectors that are finding that something that used to be a dime a dozen at gun shows are getting alot harder to find in excellent condition.
Bottom line, people like myself who appreciate Winchesters will buy what they can afford. Also people are avoiding alot of the high end stuff because of the number of phonies out there.0 -

Your question is too broad to answer. There are a lot of "Antique" Winchesters, spanning more than a dozen different models. Some have appreciated in value more than others, and the high condition specimens (regardless of the model) are the ones that have gone up the most. If I had to take a stab at it, I believe that the "Antique" Model 1886s have gone up the most.0 -

Thankyou Pauline. That's good to hearon the Model 37s. Mine seems to be a late gun that sat in someone's closet as it is in near new condition. Also, one of my SX1s is in pristine condition. When I started collecting, I passed on a pre-war M42 for 750.00 because I had just bought a 16 gauge M12(I could kick myself now). But I have put collecting on hold right now because of the prices.
