I am looking to buy a gun safe. can any one tell me where to look for the best prices, also, any suggestions as to brand?

I have mostly the Sentry models,i think that about any of the good fire rated safes that are ok. dont get the thin tin can type safes save your money to get a fire rated one.And remember that Winchester and John Deere dont make those safes,buy a good safe not a name. 0 -
i like the fireproof safes, since i can store my documents in the safe also. I have a browning and a treadlock. the browning cost more but was much better quality. 0 -
I have a HUGE (74H X 36D X 50W) beautiful garnet and gold Fort Knox I bought in 1987. Paid $1200 for it back then and $350 for shipping. The ad is always in the back of The American Rifleman (company out of Orem, Utah).

well, i usually recopmmend the centurion line of liberty safes (good "no frills" version of their regular line, much more affordable) but the other day i looked at a large Stack-on safe. it was shorter and wider than the liberty and "rated" for 36 long guns. fire rated and waterproof (so they say). it was $900 and looked pretty good. just my 2c

if you talk to real safe guys, you will find few recommend Chinese made Stack-on or Liberty, some of which are also Chinese made. Liberty has 1/10 inch steel wrapped around gyp boad so it looks thick. I know of one that was breached by a hatchet through the side wall. The fire rating on gun safes is also not the same as on real Fire-proof safes either. Cannon is a good quality safe. The $600-$1000 safes might keep out the average crack-head or snatch and grab burgler, but I would not bet my guns on them. (If I had any guns, which I don't) 0 -
I have some with dial combinations and some with 10 ket pads (digital). 10 key pads can open in a couple seconds, dials are a flat PITA. Strongly reccomend 10 key pads. 0 -
If you go digital, make the salesman demonstrate opening the safe if the batteries go. Some cannot be opened. I prefer mechanical dials. 0 -
I'm looking at a Liberty Centurion right now.
Found out the small one ($630 at SportAuthority store, $530 online from SA, $400 at Lowes in store) *isn't* a UL listed safe. Its the 12 gun model. However, all the larger ones are... so I'm coupon hunting to pick up the 20 gun version at Lowes (listed at $727). Features are the same - dial, has holes for floor bolting, etc.
