    For aiding pulling it out of a holster without setting off the trigger, if I'm not mistaken.

    this type were typically ordered by the Russian gov't(some were ordered by people in the US as well) and the spur could be used as a finger rest during target shooting.

    I'll go with ruger41 in that it is a finger rest for a style of shooting popular at the time.

    BUT: It is not a Schofield. The Russian model(s) are Russians, the Schofield is only the No 3 variant with frame mounted top latch used by the US Army from 1875 in .45 caliber.
