Pre-1899 NFA question
Here is the situation -- A gun store is selling an antique rolling block action that was originally a rifle. Currently, it has a 11 inch barrel (pistol caliber) attached, and the tangs have been bent down for a pistol grip (no wood on it right now). They make no mention of any NFA transfer rules.
Is this legal? I know that it would be considered a NFA item if it was of recent manufacture, but does the antique status make it OK?
I'm not really interested in the gun, but it sure seems like a Short Barreled Rifle to me.

It is exempt if it is original in that configuration, but if it fires a fixed metallic cartridge and is not original than it would not be exempt from the National Firearms Act. If this were a muzzle loader than NFA restrictions would not apply.
Antique classification along with the the National Firearms Act makes for a tricky mix, but this is how I understand the regulations.0 -
Thanks, Mark
It definitely is NOT in the original configuration. Hope that nobody gets in trouble over it!0
