Boresighting Options For the M1 and M14

Hi, folks. A little background:

I like to do the bore-sighting the old fashioned way, by removing the bolt, and looking through the inside of the barrel! Alas, not possible with the M1 and M1A. So..

1. Is there an optic that I can place into the breech end, so I may be able to accomplish visual bore-sighting?

2. If not feasable, (inaccurate, etc) is there a laser bore sight setup that will allow me to laser-sight my rifle without removing the M14 flash surpressor?

    Wish I could be more help, there is a small "L" shaped device out there (basically a small version of a little periscope type toy we used to play with as kids) with a set of small mirrors on it. Set the thing into the chamber, it supposedly reflects the bore sight image onto a mirror on the leg of the device sitting to the right of the ejection port.

    I know there are some that magnet to the barrel and I dont see why that would not work for you application. They should be high enough since I believe they work with the AR's.

    There are 2 other options. Do you have open sights you can see with the scope mounted. If so an you know your open sights are on "bore-sight" by bringing your cross hairs to point of aim with your open sights.

    The other involves shooting, but I am sure you know this one. At your given distance, usually starting at 25-50 yards shoot 1 round. With your gun mounted firmly move the gun so the crosshairs are on the hole. Then move your crosshairs, with the gun mounted firmly, to the point you want to hit.

    I just ordered an extra long rod for the standard non lazer sighter and used it on the M14 the M1 would not require it. The idea is to just get on the target and make the adjustments required while shooting.

    Cabela's sells a laser bore sighter that chambers like a cartridge.
    You can get them in different calibers.

    I use a 'Lite Site' which is similar to the 'Laserlyte' linked below.

    Use 'laser bore' in your search, and you will see a number of these plus a number of the chamber models.

    The advantage of these is that you need only one for all your rifles, and the disadvantage is that you will be sighting in the flash hider on your M14.

    The disadvantage of the chamber types is that you need one for each caliber and you are sighting in the chamber rather than the barrel.

    I have this bore sighting gage its mil.for small arms fire adj.7.62mm-.308 No.TXN-7-195.bought it for my mil.collection years ago.dont know what its used for.looks like small periscope.tks hedge[:D]
