Walther P38 extraction probs

Just acquired a Walther P38 and took it out to the range today to give it a once over. Right off the bat, it failed to eject about every other case and the slide didn't lock when the last round had been fired.

The ammo I was using was some old lead stuff (Ultramax remanufactured) that I had lying around. I'm wondering if some "oomph" from a fully loaded jacketed bullet would give it the extra snap it needs to extract and lock the slide?

Also, how does one go about field stripping a P 38?

    Use hotter ammo, never ran across any 9mm commercial ammo with cast bullets that was loaded as hot as the jacketed stuff.

    Try a box of Fiocchi 9mm, it tends to bring those sluggish European automatic pistols right back to life.

    what are some reload recipes for success with this pistol to ensure reliable functioning?

    I would not..but thats me. The firearm that you have to me is a machine that just needs the right "gas" to function..I would just get better ammo, i.e. hotter loads, and it will work like a sewing machine...nambu

    I had the problem with a P-1... until i stopped 'limp-wristing' it..
