egyptian fn-49

Hello gun nuts, I just picked up a fn-49 at the gun show. Barrel length is just past the gas plug, doesn't look like it was cutoff with a hacksaw, there is circular mill marks like it was turned on a lathe, also looks like the barrel has a liner insert. Does anyone know if FN made shorter versions of the fn-49 like a tanker, or was this a modification that someone did?

  All SAFN (commonly called the Model 49) barrels are just a fraction over 23 inches in length, regardless of caliber. There were no carbine variations with short barrels.

  The Argi's made some modifications that allowed a removable mag and possibly a caliber change to 7.62 and a shortening of the barrel, but to my knowledge the Egyptians never modified any. They were in 8mm Mauser.

  I would be pretty easy and cheap to fix. New FN-49 barrels can be had for $35.
