Remington 870 Wingmaster Barrel
A freind has a older Wingmaster 20 ga needs a barrel bought one and it wouldnt fit is there any difference in the age for the barrel or did he just get the wrong one sent too him

The only difference that I know of is 2 3/4 vs. 3". If he had a standard gun with 2 3/4" chamber and he bought a 3" mag barrel, it probably won't fit. Other than that, I believe they are all the same. Did he buy a Remington barrel, or one that was built by a different vendor that says it will fit a Remington? 0 -
If your friend has the older style 870 Wingmaster 20ga shotgun that was built on the 12ga receiver, then he will need to buy the older style barrel with the large barrel ring (approx. 1.00 inches in diameter) and a quarter WILL FIT through the barrel ring. Regarding the newer 20ga shotguns (post-1978), both the Wingmasters and Express models have a smaller diameter barrel ring (approx. .875 inches in diameter) and a quarter WILL NOT fit through the newer style barrels. So round up a quarter, and you can figure out what you need. A lot of sellers will state whether or not a quarter will fit through the barrel ring on the 20ga Wingmaster barrels, in order to help potential buyers determine if the barrel will fit their gun. It is often referred to as the 'Quarter Test'. There are plenty of old style barrels out there. Just keep watching the GB auctions if your friend still needs one. mak 0 -

The last 3 are right on the money, a 3 inch barrel will pop onto a 2 3/4 inch receiver all day long with no problem.. 0
