No, the largest frame would be the X-frame, used for their hand cannons.

The only difference between round & square butt on the same size frame is the bottom of the butt.

But the X frame would be the newer models like the 460 and 500 right?
    Thanks, Justin

The "N" frame is the same size whether it is square or round butt. You are correct when you say the N frame is the largest frame UNTIL the X frame came out, as per mmeyers.

Yeh. The 'S&W on steroids' is the X frame. You really can't get an impression of the size of it unless you gaze down into the showcase at the shop. Not sure of the model numbers, but the 'X' frame revolvers are designed for the .460 and .500 pistol cartridges. Best, Joe

The "X" frame is currently Smiths largest frame.

This is the gun that the .500SW and the .460 are built on. Note that even though the "X" frame guns have the largest frames, they were deliberately designed to use the same grips as the K and L frame guns.

So here is the frame size list:

    X - super large frame (for .500SW, .460, etc).
    N - large frame (for .44 magnum, .45 ACP, .357, etc).
    L - medium/large frame (.357 magnum, etc).
    K - medium frame (.38 special, .357).
    J - small frame (.38 special, .32, etc).

Here are the four common frame sizes. Note that the K and L are similar in overall size, with the

The round/square butt refers only to the shape of the gun's butt. With the same model gun, the FRAME will be the same; only the butt contour is different.
