I have a ruger no.1B serial # 131-27237 chambered in 300 winchester mag. This rifle is different from all other rifles I have seen, this one has the heavier varmit style barrel which is also crowned. The rifle shoots extremly well MOA common. I just wonder if ruger done many of these, I have seen many of them in the lighter varmit calibers, but never another in a caliber this heavy. Thank you for any information. 0 -
It sounds like a #1 V, they did make them chambered for the 300 Winchester Magnum... 0 -
Call Ruger, (603-863-3300)ask for records. give them the serial number, they will tell you how it shipped 1B or 1V. If it's a 1V ask for a letter describing the No.1, it's free. A good one to have, I think they were only produced from 1973 through 1978, and your SN fits years produced.
A 1B would have a 1/4 rib.
1V would have target blocks.

Did you find out anything ?
I looked back in my records and they did for sure make the #1 V in a 300 Win Mag..0 -
Mine has the target blocks, but ruger says the serial number represents a no. 1B. All I know is it is a very accurate shooter. Very heavy to carry as well carried it around one deer season a very long time ago. I get a chance I will post a picture. 0
