What to look for in a M1A Rifle
I am looking at prurchasing and M1A Super Match rifle. I read so much about quality and casted parts so I would appreciate any and all info on what to look for in a great M1A. I read about casted parts vs. refinished old ones. Looking to get some great accuracy out of this rifle. I know I want one with a rear lug tp hold the reciever in place.Please let me know what years (DOM) I should look for plus manufacturer's symbols (TRW, SA, etc) What are the "key" components to watch for? What are questions I should ask of the seller to asure myself a great gun? I'm sure there is alot of info on this topic so it might need a second thread started to get it all in. Please help. I greatly appreciate all the wisdom and experience from you gentlemen.

Well, for starters, learn as much as you can, don't depend on the seller telling you everything you should know. Check out the Fulton Armory site, as there is a lot of good information there.
Yes, the rifles assembled with mostly USGI parts are generally better & are not likely to break parts. But, everything is relative. I don't have a complete list of codes, so see if you can find one; they won't all have TRW or SA. One of the USGI contractors used EE.
The barrel is the most important thing. Look for a well known maker; if you don't see any markings, it is likely Chicom & should be avoided. Ask for the Muzzle Wear & Muzzle Erosion measurements; gauges are not a bad investment for you.
A double-lugged receiver doesn't increase accuracy, it just extends the number of rounds until you have to re-bed the stock.

I will say take anything from Fulton with a grain of salt.
They are a PR firm.
See how many of their rifles are on the line and you will get my point.
Check the headspace, GC fit, ME, and function.
USGI parts are preferable but not required.
Shoot it with some Fed GM.
If it functions and is a less than MOA rifle, get it.

Ref: Fulton Armory..Prior poster is channeling the OP to the site, whereby good publications abound. It's the publications that he (we? I?) are recommending to establish a good baseline prior to purchase.

Harry: I bought a M1A barreled receiver from Champion's Choice and built a match rifle with all GI parts and it was great. Everything that Champion's Choice sells is top notch (the owners are high power shooters). They sell a double and single lugged receiver. A friend of mine had a rifle with chinese parts; the heat treatment was terrible 0
