new 1892 winchester?

I often wondered what a "pre 64" winchester would cost to make now days.
not exactly the same, but winchester and browning are announcing a limited edition 1892 take down rifle for sale thru davidsons.
theyre being made by a company called Miroku, in JAPAN! msrp is $1,875.
two questions come to mind;
who in heck is miroku?
and
do they mean to tell us that no american company could make these guns with the same quality and price??!!
I was going to order one until i saw the made in japan label!

    Miroku has been making the Winchester 92 for a couple of years. For example, check out the John Wayne 100th Anniversary Commemorative made in 2007 by Miroku.

    Miroku has been making firearms for Winchester since the late 1970s (one of the first was the Model 101). Their quality is actually quite good, but they are not the same as a pre-64 madef gun.

    Miroku has been around for a long time. They have long made guns for other companies. If you look hard enough, you may even be able to find a Miroku revolver, though their stock & trade is long guns. The Browning International Web site gives Miroku a birthdate of 1893:

    In the recent past, Browning refered to Miroku as their "factory in Japan".

    My Browning B92 was made by Miroku. It is a very nice rifle. Some parts may interchange with other "Model 1892s" (like Rossis, for instance), sort of by default, due to size & shape similarities. However, the Mirokus have metric threads on their barrels & their fasteners. I believe that this is not the standard metric measurement, but something called Japanese Imperial Metric.

    Olin/ Winchester/ Browning/ BACO is now selling a couple of Special Edition Model 94s that Miroku is building. They are the Angle-eject/ tang safety version, and they, too, retail for North of $1,000. ...pretty guns, but too rich for my blood. ...and, there are enough of the used, American-made, old-timers left in this country that I would rather own.[;)]

    I have had a couple of the Miroku made 92's, and they are very well built. I acquired them at dealer cost, and made huge profits on them after the plant closed in New Haven, even though New Haven had NOTHING to do with making them.

    Miroku has been around for a long time, and their quality is astounding.

    thanks all. i had never heard of that company before. the article i read made it sound like this was a brand new item, as in not offered before. i guess the bottom line for me is that it's not really a winchester. might as well buy another rossi and save 900 bucks![:)]
