I'm new at this Bill. I should have specified that I was trying to
date 2 TP22 pistols and I don't see them listed on your website. I
know these are not very collectable but I was just curious as to
their dates. One is AE32809, the other is AE59103.
Also, is the "Model D" as shown on Bob's Gun Parts site the same as
the "Pony Pocket 380" listed in the Blue Book? Thanks. Charlie0 -
will answer the easy one first. the iver johnson pony 380 acp was manufactured as the firearms international model D before iver johnson purchased. most parts are interchangable but there were two types of recoil springs and two type of extractors.
only recently have i begun to study the TP Series of handguns. i have discovered there was only one serial number series and it went from AE0001 or AE 00100 up (i own number AE00327). these poocket pistols were manufactured between 1982 and 1989. i am not sure what the highest serieal number for the TP22 is but i would say your lower serial number was mid production (about 1984/1985) and the higher number would be late production (about 1988/1989).
several years ago i tried to get the iver johnson serial number post 1968 out of the BATF but they made it so expensive i could not afford them. their reasoning was these are not public records so they could charge what they wanted for them. although it is mandatory for a firearms company to turn over these records when they shutdown.
