Mossberg 500/Maverick 88 Parts Interchangeability
Someone is bound to know.
What parts will interchange between a Mossberg 500 and a Maverick 88, assuming both are the same gauge?
I know the barrels will interchange.
What about the buttstock?
Forend?
Action bars?
The Maverick I just tore down has the action bars permanently attached to the plastic forend. Will the assembly work on a Mossberg?
Breech block?
Locking bolt?
Shell lifter?
Ejector?
Shell stops?
Trigger group?
If I put a Maverick trigger group in a Mossberg, will I have a working shotgun with two safetys?
If I put a Mossberg trigger group in a Maverick, will I have a working shotgun with no safety?
Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know too since I just inherited my dad's Maverick 88.--according to the Mossberg website the stocks will interchange--the forearms don't look to though. 0 -
Everything listed should interchange just fine.
If you put the Maverick trigger group in a Mossberg then you will have a shotgun with a tang safety and a crossbar safety.0 -
Thanks. I thought so, and it appeared to be so, but I wanted to know for sure.
Imagine installing the Mossberg trigger group into the Maverick, though. No safety. You would think Mossberg would make the trigger groups just different enough that this wouldn't be possible.0 -

Eh. . .if you want the gun to be safe, just keep the chamber empty. I've heard that works pretty well [}:)]
On creating a mongrel gun without a safety, I don't see why Mossberg should alter its tooling to prevent dumbasses from creating a gun with no safety. Needless to say, if you don't know what you are doing, maybe its not a good idea to be swapping parts into and out of your weapons.
Lets face it, if you actually did this and didn't notice that your gun had no safety, would you really have been using the safety anyway if one WERE there? Probably not.
Lastly, if you want to disable your guns safety, you can do that with just about ANY gun design. This way just happens to be a little easier than some.
Back to the original question, last time there was a question on parts interchangeability here, I looked into this, and I remember that NOT all the parts will interchange. I don't happen to have these handy to compare, but I seem to remember that the forearms and action bars won't swap.
I believe the stocks, barrels and trigger groups will swap, as will most of the internal parts (though I can't be more specific than that).0 -
Thanks. I was being lazy. Today, I broke down a Maverick and a Mossberg and compared parts.
Trigger groups will not interchange. The Maverick is slightly longer than the Mossberg.
The shell stops are also different on the back end.
The rest of the parts look as though they will interchange.
Thanks again.0 -
That's odd my trigger groups swap out fine (did it by accident one day, was cleaning both at the same time). I also changed the internals of the Maverick over to old Mossberg parts bought from gunbroker when I noticed the elevator was made of real flimsy metal (I think I got the elevator from you IIRC). Maybe they changed something somewhere along the way. 0 -
My bad, it was a new haven that swapped the trigger groups, but I did replace the internals of the Maverick with Mossberg parts. 0
