Optics: Leupold vs Nightforce

I am new here so bear with me. I am in the process of outfitting a new Rifle for long distance Target Shooting. I am looking to purchase a Barrett 98 Bravo and looking at Scope options.

I have narrowed it down to either the Leupold Mark IV 8.5-25x 50mm ER/T M1 or Nightforce 5.5-22x NXS 50mm. Later on I would like to add the Barrett BORS on the Scope.

Just looking for some input to make an informed decision. Any comments are welcome.

    Welcome to the forum!

    If you can afford the Nightforce do so. You won't regret it.

    Leupolds reputation in the past was they had very good optics for the time. They used to be the high end scope in stores. Since the 70's it seems they have done little to increase their scope capability, all the while saving money by bringing on lines made outside this country. Countries whose quality standards are not on par with our own. For years they used Japanese made glass which has been excellent. But with subbing out from them even the quality isn't as good as it once was in comparison to the past. I have an older 6.5-20x50 VX-III and it's been a solid performer. Even if the glass isn't on par with some of my other scopes.

    Nightforce on the other hand has most if not all of it's parts made in Japan and is 'assembled' here in America. They have excellent glass and are solidly and quality built.

    Never could bring myself to compare a Leupold to a Nightforce, not even a fair contest...
    The new Sightron LR is a better scope than the Leupold ever will be......
    WAAy back when, the Leupold was a name to be proud of, but it don't seem that way anymore, sad to say..........

    I have heard nothing but good reports on the nightforce! Currently I shoot leupold MK 4 M1's on my Remington 700P's (.308 & .300 WM) and on my Barrett 99 with a BORS. I have not had a chance to get the BORS system to the range yet, but have had great results from my 700p's! Hardest part for me was learning how to use the Mil-Dot system? Still working with it, am improving, but have a long way to go![:)]

    Nope, at least one more vote for Night Force, just to be sure he got the message. There are several I would put above leuppies these days.

    Friend of mine moved up from Burris to Leupold, then got a Nightforce which was clearly superior and thought he had about topped out in optics.

    Until he got to shoot a rifle with a March scope at the F-Class Nationals at Ft Butner.

    Thanks for the input...I think I got the message loud and clear. Now time to do some shopping.

    There will be a Barrett 98 on the back seat of my pick up tomorrow making its way home. I think there will be a Nightforce on the Bench later next week.

    I would really like to hear how you like the BORS???
